In Memory of Tom Billings – Supporting the Campo Volunteer Fire Department
On June 3, 2026, our family lost an incredible man, husband, father, grandfather, friend, and servant to his community. Tom “Papa” Billings passed away after a courageous 20-day battle following a tragic accident while responding to a wildfire.
Tom spent his life serving others. Whether it was helping a neighbor, supporting his family, working in the community, or answering the call when someone needed help, he never hesitated to step forward. On the day of his accident, he was doing exactly what he had done countless times before—serving and protecting the people of Baca County.
Throughout his final days, Tom was surrounded by family, love, laughter, stories, and goodbyes. He spent time reliving memories, teasing his grandsons for being little goobers, and enjoying a Pepsi he had been asking for. Even through the hardest moments, he remained the strong, stubborn, loving man we all knew and cherished.
In lieu of flowers, our family asks that memorial donations be made to the Campo Volunteer Fire Department. This department was more than an organization to Tom—it was family. The funds raised will help support the volunteers who continue to protect our community and honor the legacy of service that Tom dedicated his life to.
Every donation, no matter the size, helps carry forward the work that meant so much to him.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your prayers, support, and kindness during this difficult time. We are forever grateful.
“A life lived in service is a life well lived.”
Rest easy, Papa. We’ll take it from here.
