Honoring the work and generosity of Alan Klotz

I am Peter Zimmerman, Alan's stepson and I have been working closely with Anita Goes,

Alan's gallery manager. We are struggling with the challenges of honoring Alan's life

and business of 40+ years. The gallery had not been doing as well as some might

perceive over the past couple of years. Alan shared his struggles with few. I know it was

difficult for him. Alan loved his work and found joy in sharing his knowledge and his

mind’s eye with others. Alan especially enjoyed being surrounded by others that

understood and appreciated the same. Luckily for Alan, he was able to do this work until

his last day. Alan died suddenly of heart failure on August 22nd while traveling to

visit an old friend. Unfortunately, Alan needed to sell most of his private collection over

time and passed away with more debts than assets.

Our goal in raising money is for the following:

-To pay the loyal staff that will help expedite the return of all the photographs consigned to the gallery. This includes in Alan fashion, providing them with lunch!

-To help pay for a portion of Alan's debts that he couldn't cover. The idea is to leave Alan's reputation in good standing with those he did business with. He would hate the idea of not being able to wrap up his affairs.

-Alan's cremation and appropriate memorial service.

Alan was known to be generous with his buyers because he wanted people to have work they appreciated. We are hoping his years of generosity will now return to him as the universe has a way of providing.

Alan kept a drawer full of anonymous photographs he would offer browsers during his

annual Holiday Sale in the “under $100” category. Although these orphaned images

were difficult to monetize, Alan treasured them as icons of photography’s magic and

unique allure. In appreciation for gifts of $100 or greater, Anita will arrange for the

donor to receive one of these images as a keepsake.
