On may 30th Martin Gary Nelson (Marty to most) passed away. The loss of his kindness, humor, and generosity is devastating. The Nelson family is setting up this GoFundMe page to help alleviate some of the financial burden of the funeral costs. Martin Gary Nelson, affectionately known as Marty, passed away on May 30, 2025, at the age of 61. Born on Christmas Day in 1963 in Lapeer, Michigan, Marty lived a life full of curiosity humor and heart.
A proud graduate of Imlay City High School, Class of 1982, Marty was both a dedicated football player and a talented saxophonist. He was also a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), reflecting his appreciation for agriculture and community. After high school, he attended St. Clair Community College before launching a long and successful career in information technology. Throughout the years, Marty shared his technical expertise and easygoing spirit in roles at Fox News, Disney, the U.S. Navy, and Hilton Hotels in Burbank, California. He was respected and well-liked by colleagues wherever he worked.
Marty was a believer in Christ, and his faith was a quiet but steady source of strength in his life. He enjoyed nature and loved spending time outdoors. He was also an adventurous cook, always eager to try new recipes and share meals with those he cared about. He also played guitar in an amateur pop/country band, finding joy in making music and performing with friends. Known for his sharp wit and warm presence, Marty had a gift for making others laugh and feel at ease.
He is survived by his beloved son, Nicholas Nelson; his sister-in-law, Katherine Nelson; his brother, Mark Nelson; his sister, Missy Morris (Gordon); his brother, Preston Nelson (Julie); and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gary and Beverly, and his brother, Gerald.
Marty will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew and loved him.
