Honoring the Life of Phillip Sealy
Donation protected
This page is set up by Stephanie Opdahl Hubach. I am a personal friend of the Sealy family who has known them for a number of years through our shared passion for ministry to and alongside people touched by disability. The beneficiary of this fund will be Lori Mullwee Sealy, Phillip's beloved wife of 25 years. The funds will be made available to for two primary uses: 1) immediate expenses related to funeral costs, and 2) to help cover the family's living expenses for the next year.
Phillip Sealy touched the lives of countless people throughout his life of fifty-six years. He intentionally and graciously moved towards others, not because he wanted people to notice him, but because he longed for others to experience the living hope that comes from knowing Jesus Christ. A champion for the outcast, the oppressed, the underdog and the unnoticed—Phillip sought to make the gospel genuinely accessible to everyone he met. The source of Phillip’s passion for those who face challenges in life was only reinforced by his deep love for his family which includes two immediate family members living with autism spectrum disorder.
A faithful preacher of God’s Word, Phillip was equally a faithful doer of God’s deeds. Characterized by authenticity, boldness, humor, humility, sacrificial giving and sensitivity to others, Phillip possessed a pastor’s heart through and through. A passion for church planting, as a powerful means for sharing the gospel with others, served as the mutual heartbeat of Phillip and his wife Lori throughout their many years of ministry as a couple.
In God’s Providence, Phillip's journey of faith and relentless battle with cancer ended on 13 January 2020, leaving those of us who knew and loved him deeply heartbroken at this loss to his family, his friends, his neighbors and the church-at-large. Life will hold new and unique challenges for Lori and their children--Josh and Elizabeth--as they seek to navigate life together without Phillip's guiding influence and loving presence. We know God will carry them through these challenges. And as is often the case, he will employ his people to be his hands and feet in the process.
Many have asked how they can tangibly help Phillip’s family moving into the future. Here is one way:
If you are able to honor Phillip's life through a gift to help with expenses for his funeral and for the ongoing support of his family, please contribute via the GoFundMe link below. All contributions (less standard online donation processing fees) will go directly to Lori Sealy as the beneficiary to administer on behalf of her family at this time.
Thank you for honoring Phillip’s memory in this way, by demonstrating care for his family. Most of all, Phillip would want you to know this truth about Christ that he embraced to the very core of his soul, right to the very end of his life:
"My hope is built on nothing less, than Jesus’ blood and righteousness.
I dare not trust the sweetest frame, but wholly rest on Jesus’ name.
On Christ the solid rock I stand. All other ground is sinking sand."
