Honoring the Life of Layla Chrissa Clemons
Our family would like to begin by extending our deepest gratitude for the incredible outpouring of love, support, and compassion during this unimaginable time. Every gesture—big or small—has brought us comfort. Your kind words, warm hugs, meals, phone calls, messages, donations, and prayers have helped sustain us, and we are truly and deeply thankful to each and every one of you.
It is with shattered hearts that we share the tragic loss of our beloved 17-year-old daughter, sister, granddaughter, and friend, Layla Chrissa Clemons, who was senselessly taken from us on August 2, 2025, in West Sacramento. Layla and her girlfriend, Jaea Chatman, were both killed by a drunk driver in a hit-and-run incident that has left our entire family and community reeling in grief.
Layla was the cherished daughter of Melissa Vallejos and Christopher Clemons, and a loving sister to Sara Fernandez, Aniyah, and Jason jr Grigsby and Zadie and Calise Clemons. She brought light, laughter, and love into every space she entered. With her bright smile, gentle spirit, and kind heart, Layla had a way of making everyone feel loved.
She was an animal lover who dreamed of working as a nurse. Layla found joy in the simple things: family gatherings, camping trips, long talks with friends, music and being surrounded by those she loved. She was excited to learn how to drive and begin the next chapter of her life. Her potential was boundless, and her absence leaves a void we will never be able to fill.
This tragedy has changed our lives forever, and while no words can ease our pain, we are committed to honoring Layla’s memory with the love and dignity she deserves.
We are humbly asking for your support to help cover funeral expenses, memorial services, and to provide space for our family to grieve and begin healing. Any contribution, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated. Alternatively, family and friends can reach out directly to send donations of support. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser with others and continuing to keep Layla and Jaea’s families in your thoughts and prayers.
Due to the sudden nature of our loss, the date of services is to be determined.
From the bottom of our hearts—thank you for your love, your support, and for helping us celebrate Layla’s beautiful life.
With gratitude,
The Clemons & Vallejos Families
