For over 30 years, Mel Pierce, III. has dedicated his life to protecting others as a police officer with the Knoxville Police Department. He served as a detective in the Criminal Investigation Division working property crimes. For more than a decade, he served as a detective and forensic examiner with the Tennessee Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce, working tirelessly to rescue children from online exploitation and to give them a chance at safety, healing, and hope. His work saved lives—often quietly, often unseen—but always with unwavering commitment.
Mel comes from a family rooted in service. His father, Melvin Pierce, Jr., was a retired Captain with the Knoxville Police Department and passed away in November 2025. Just days after losing his father, Mel received a devastating diagnosis: Stage 4 Intrahepatic Cholangiocarcinoma. The weight of that moment is difficult to put into words—profound loss followed by life‑altering news.
Mel was a devoted husband to his wife, Gina, who herself served more than 15 years with the Knoxville Police Department and now works as an investigator with the Knox County District Attorney’s Office. Gina has been battling her own health challenges for several years yet continues to stand strong for her family. Together, they have been married for 25 years, raised five remarkable children, and are now raising their 13‑year‑old granddaughter—offering her stability, love, and a home filled with care.
Today, April 2nd, Mel passed away in his home, surrounded by family and friends. While his badge may be set aside, his legacy of courage, compassion, and protection lives on through every life he touched and every child he helped save.
This fundraiser is about standing beside Mel and his family during one of the hardest chapters of their lives. It is about easing burdens, offering comfort, and giving back to someone who spent a lifetime giving to others. Your generosity—no matter the size—is a powerful reminder that Mel and his family are not alone.
Giving is simple, but its impact is profound. By donating, you are standing beside a man who spent his life protecting others and offering hope when it was needed most. If you’re unable to give financially, sharing this fundraiser and keeping the Pierce family in your thoughts and prayers is just as meaningful.
Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for your compassion. And thank you for helping us honor Mel’s legacy—one defined by courage, service, and unwavering love and dedication for others.
