Christopher Phillips, known and loved by many as Mickey, was a man who lived his life putting others before himself. Well known throughout Gary, Indiana, Mickey was someone people could count on, especially when times were hard.

Mickey had a heart bigger than his circumstances. He would go without eating just to make sure someone else had a meal. Even when he didn’t have much, he gave whatever he could: his time, his energy, his last few dollars, or simply a listening ear. Helping people wasn’t something he did for recognition; it was simply who he was.

Mickey spent time serving in the Navy, and the values of sacrifice and looking out for others followed him throughout his life. To those who knew him, he was more than a familiar face. He was a helper, a friend, and a source of kindness in the community. His generosity touched countless lives, and his loss has left a deep void in the hearts of many. Unfortunately, due to his discharge status, he won’t be eligible for VA burial benefits.
