There are no words that can fully capture what it feels like to lose someone like Dre—or the impact he had on the people around him. He wasn’t just my brother or my best friend—he was a light in so many people’s lives and someone I could always count on.

My brother, alongside his mom, created something most people spend their entire lives searching for—a real, unconditional bond. The kind of love that couldn’t be shaken or broken. You never had to question it, because they showed it every single day in the ways they showed up for each other. They were best friends, each other’s safe place, and everything family is supposed to be.

If Dre cared about you that meant you were going to be okay no matter what. If you were hungry, you ate (and mom’s fried chicken is really addicting LOL!). If you needed somewhere safe to crash, you had a place. If you were struggling, you didn’t have to go through it alone. Dre had such a way of making people feel important, safe, loved—and he had a smile that could light up the entire universe.

Now we’re facing something that none of us were ready for—saying goodbye… there are so many things I never had the chance to say and I think about the things I would have said like a broken record playing over and over again in my head. Life gets so busy and time feels like something that is constantly slipping away.

There’s nothing we want more than for Dre to be laid to rest with the dignity he deserves, while making this process as gentle as possible for his mom and son. We’re asking for support to help cover the cost of his viewing and memorial arrangements. More than anything, his mom wants to give her grandson the chance to say a meaningful goodbye to his father and a chance to hold his hand one more time. A moment to be present, to feel the love in the room and to honor Dre’s life. We’re all holding onto the hope of having that space—to say the things we didn’t get to say, to come together, and to surround him with the same love he gave to all of us.
