Sometimes in life, tragedy will strike. Sadly enough, we’re not always prepared. On March 26th, 2026, my close friend and most AMAZING mother, Shauntalé, lost her 7-year-old daughter A’Zariea Marie Baker.
After what seemed to be a common cold, A’Zariea succumbed to Influenza A & B, accompanied by Mycoplasma Pneumonia.
If your child is sick, please trust your instincts and advocate for them. Ask to have them tested for Influenza A & B and Mycoplasma pneumonia.
A’Zariea (affectionately known as Zari) was diagnosed with Mycoplasma pneumonia, and it was attacking the bottom of her right lung. It was initially undetected and was the size of a quarter. Her lungs collapsed, and when doctors tried to intubate her, she coded four times. Her mother stood there, helpless, watching her baby fight for her life—and somehow, through it all, she kept coming back. Her strength was something we will never be able to put into words.
The doctors told us they had done everything they could, but her lungs were just too sick. The next step was placing her on the ECMO life support machine. She fought so hard on that machine… until the family received the news no parent is ever prepared for—her pupils were no longer reactive. She had suffered multiple brain bleeds, one of the risks of ECMO. She never imagined this would be her family’s reality.
A’Zariea’s mother (Shauntalé) is not just sad—but hurting. A’Zariea had so much life ahead of her, so many dreams still waiting. But we trust God’s plan, even when it breaks our hearts. Her parents find peace in knowing He chose her path, even if they don’t understand.
An honor walk was done at the hospital as A’Zariea’s organs were successfully donated to a child in need, which brings a bit of solace to our hearts.
“I am forever grateful that I was chosen to be her mommy for 7 beautiful, unforgettable years.
Please keep our family in your prayers as we navigate this unimaginable loss. Any support, whether through sharing this or helping with expenses, means more than we can ever express. Continued blessings and love to you all.
Long Live A’Zariea ️
