Honoring the Legacy of LAURA NYRO
Donation protected
In 1993, I had the honor and privilege to sing with my childhood idol, the great singer/songwriter Laura Nyro, who wrote such favorites as "Stoned Soul Picnic," "And When I Die," and "Stoney End." Her early solo albums were heralded as groundbreaking and brilliant ("New York Tendaberry", "Eli and the 13th Confession", "Christmas and the Beads of Sweat") and many contemporary recording artists such as Elton John, Elvis Costello, and Brandi Carlile have cited her as one of their primary creative influences.
Until she passed away in 1997, I toured and recorded with Laura as a member of her Harmony Group, going to Japan, the United Kingdom, and all over the US. It was thrilling to sing with her and see the reactions that audiences had to her music and her magnificent voice. 1n 2013, she was inducted into the Rock-and-Roll Hall of Fame. Laura once told me that I was "the closest sound" to her voice (although I feel that it's my emotion and not my voice that is close to her when I sing).
For the past almost ten years, I have made it my mission to keep her music alive in my own special way, working with brilliant musicians who all revere Laura. We have had the pleasure of performing all over, including going to Scotland for the Celtic Connections Festival. It has been my dream to record her material for a CD, but I've not had the financing to do so. Now I've decided it's about time I take the leap and am asking you to help support me in this effort. Laura's music touches so many, and for me, is my "Mother Spiritual."
As a special thank you, donations of $50 and above will receive a full-color signed poster. Donations of $250 and above will be listed as Executive Producers on the finished project.
I thank you for helping me keep Laura's art and soul alive. It's gonna take some "Time and Love," but I know with your donations I can do it!
