Honoring the Legacy of Delores Headswift Fisher
Donation protected
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Delores Fisher — a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, educator, and community leader.
Born on July 20, 1940, to Frank and Helen Headswift, Delores lived a life dedicated to service, kindness, and education. She attended Haskell in the 1950s, when it was still an institute, and later returned in the 1970s when it became Haskell Indian Junior College. Throughout her life, she was proud of her Northern Cheyenne heritage and committed herself to lifting up Native children and families.
Delores was known to many simply as “Grandma Dee,” a loving soul who left a deep impact on every life she touched. She loved her students, she laughed with them, and she believed in their futures even when others did not.
Over the course of her career, she tutored approximately 10 children a year for 21 years — and continued to tutor more even after her retirement. Altogether, she helped more than 200 young students succeed in school, building a foundation for generations. Delores often knew three generations of the same family: the grandparents, the parents she guided, and now the children she encouraged with the same patient heart.
We are raising funds to help cover the costs of her funeral services and to assist her husband, Dan Fisher, as he faces the difficult road ahead without her.
Any donation, no matter the size, would mean the world to our family. Thank you for honoring Delores Fisher’s incredible legacy of love, learning, and resilience.
