Honoring the Life of Teris King
With broken hearts, we are asking for your support for Ebony, a mother who is facing the unimaginable loss of her beautiful daughter, Teris King. She was only 18 years old with her whole life ahead of her.
She just graduated high school in June, earned her CNA certification, and worked part-time at Foot Locker, inside Great Lakes Crossing Mall. She was preparing to attend Oakland University this fall, with dreams of continuing her education at Alabama A&M University the following year. Teris was a young woman with dreams, goals, plans, and so much more life left to live.
Teris was a true light—vibrant, confident, full of life, and unforgettable. Her beautiful smile, adorable smirk, and warm spirit could brighten any room. She loved her family deeply and was cherished by her grandparents, parents, siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, her high school sweetheart and his family, countless friends and so many others whose lives she touched.
That night was never supposed to end in tragedy.
What was meant to be a simple, small birthday celebration with just a group of childhood friends wanting to spend time together just laughing, having fun, and just feeling like kids again for a little while. Many of whom recently graduated from high school. They were young adults getting ready to begin college and step into the next chapter of their lives. It was supposed to be a night filled with happy memories.
Instead, it became a night that changed their lives forever.
Teris believed she was in a safe space. She felt comfortable, never imagining that she would not wake up. Tragically, Teris lost her life, as she was sleeping, an innocent victim of gun violence.
A mother should never have to wake up to the reality that her child will never come home.
Unfortunately, the hardship did not end with the loss of Teris. On that same devastating night, the family's vehicle was stolen from in front of their home and has still not been recovered, adding another unexpected financial burden to a family already overwhelmed by grief.
Ebony, is now trying to navigate a pain that no mother should ever have to experience. While grieving the loss of her daughter, she is also still a mother to Teri’s’ three siblings who need her. The emotional weight of this tragedy has made it difficult for Ebony to return to work, leaving her facing not only unimaginable grief, but also the financial responsibilities of caring for herself and her family.
Teris has been laid to rest, but the expenses and responsibilities remain. Some additional funeral expenses such as her headstone/grave marker, household expenses, transportation needs, and just everyday necessities.
We are asking for your help—not to replace what has been lost, because nothing ever could—but to help carry them through the days ahead.
