We are heartbroken to share the passing of our dear friend, Tala—a man whose presence could fill an entire stadium and whose love filled our entire community. Proudly Samoan, deeply loyal, and endlessly generous, Tala was the kind of person you never forgot. He was loud, funny, and unapologetically himself in every moment. You always knew when he was in the stands—his booming voice was a force that lifted every kid on the field, reminding them they were seen, loved, and supported.
With his sudden passing, his son Kalani, and family (Emily, Jason, and Kai) are now left to face the unimaginable road ahead. We want to surround them with the same strength and generosity Tala showed all of us.
These funds will directly help cover cremation, funeral expenses, medical bills, taxes, etc., and all of Kalani's daily needs. We hope these funds will be able to help give him the financial support he needs so he can focus on his senior year of high school and grieving the loss of his dad!
In Samoan culture, they say: “O le ala i le pule o le tautua” — The path to leadership is through service.”
Tala lived this every day. Now, we honor him by serving his family.
Thank you for your love, kindness, and support. Every contribution—big or small—makes a difference.
NOTE: We are also collecting gift cards to Safeway/Fred Meyer, Costco, gas cards, DoorDash, Visa/Mastercard, and more to help relieve the immediate needs for Kalani. If you would like to donate gift cards, please reach out to Emily Smiley to help collect!
