In Loving Memory of Suzi "Bobo" Jarman | Supporting the Birmingham Public Schools ASD Program

To rally around Mandi and celebrate the incredible life of her mother, Suzi, we've created this page for close friends and colleagues who want to show their support. All contributions will be donated directly, in Suzi’s memory, to the cause closest to her heart: the Birmingham Public Schools ASD Program.

Suzi Jarman

"Bobo" / "Aunt Bobo"

November 20, 1953 – August 13, 2026

Suzi Jarman — known to nearly everyone as "Bobo," or "Aunt Bobo" to the kids she loved like her own — passed away peacefully on August 13, 2026, at the age of 72. Suzi was, without exaggeration, the most popular woman alive. Word of her passing spread with barely a day’s notice, and still more than fifty people showed up to celebrate her life at Duggan’s Irish Pub— proof of just how many hearts she touched and how deeply she was loved.

Suzi spent her career as a teacher of autistic students in the Birmingham Public Schools, where she became something of a legend. Her students didn’t just have a teacher in Suzi — they had family, and their best friend. She adored her job and cherished every day she spent with "her kids," a devotion that followed her home and into every story she told about them.

When she wasn’t at school, you could usually find Suzi living her best life at the pool. Summers meant Forest Hills Swim Club with her beloved pool ladies, a Titos and Diet Coke or a prosecco with a splash of grenadine in hand — and do not, under any circumstances, forget the ice. Every couple of weeks, she’d trade the pool chair for a card table for girls’ cards with Auntie Jill, Annie, and Kiki, and if you ever played keno with her, you knew her numbers by heart: 1, 9, 20, and 30. So if any of those hit for you — cheers to Bobo.

Family was everything to Suzi. She could never stop talking about how proud she was of her daughter, Mandi, and her brother, Mike. She loved her nephews, Denton, Harrison, and Grayson, like the sons she never had, and made absolutely sure that little Elsie learned to say “Bobo” before almost anything else. She was happiest cruising on the boat at Torch Lake with Auntie Lee and Uncle Len, celebrating the Fourth of July with Uncle Mike and Aunt Marcia in New Hampshire, and spending Christmas Day at the movies with Mandi — a tradition she loved so much.

Suzi was a faithful member of First Presbyterian Church of Royal Oak, Michigan, and made her home in Troy, Michigan.

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Whitney, and by her parents, Marty and Denton Brown of Michigan City, Indiana. She is survived by her daughter, Mandi Jarman, of Dallas, Texas, and her brother, Mike and wife Marcia, of Nashua, New Hampshire — along with the nephews, pool ladies, card-table friends, students, and countless others lucky enough to have called her Bobo.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Birmingham Public Schools ASD Program in Suzi’s memory.
