Help Us Honor the Life of Steve Monreal ❤️
It is with overwhelming sadness and broken hearts that we share the unexpected passing of our beloved Steve Monreal—a loving son, dad, uncle, nino, dear friend, teammate, brother to so many, and the pride of East L.A. Steve was deeply loved by his family and friends, and he held a special place in the hearts of everyone fortunate enough to know him. His sudden passing has left his family, friends, teammates, and our entire basketball community devastated.
Above everything else in Steve’s life was his daughter, Saleen. She was his world, his pride and joy, and the greatest love of his life. Anyone who knew Steve knew how much his daughter meant to him. Of all the titles and accomplishments he carried throughout his life, being Saleen’s dad was the one that meant the most. The love he had for her was undeniable, and that love will forever be a part of the legacy he leaves behind.
Steve was a devoted and loving son who cared deeply for his parents. He was always there for them, looking after them, helping however he could, and making sure they were taken care of. His love for his parents was shown not only through his words, but through his actions and the way he was there for them when they needed him. Losing a son is a pain no parent should ever have to endure, and Steve’s absence will leave a space in their hearts that can never be filled.
The love Steve had for his two brothers was like no other. Their bond went far beyond being brothers—they were family, friends, and a part of one another’s lives in a way only brothers can understand. Through the good times, the difficult times, the laughter, and all the memories they shared, that brotherhood remained strong. Steve loved his brothers deeply, and the bond the three of them shared can never be taken away. That love will live on through every story, every memory, and every moment they shared together.
There are some losses you are simply never prepared for, and losing Steve is one of them. It is difficult to put into words the pain of losing someone who meant so much to so many people.
To many of us, Steve was much more than someone we shared the basketball court with. He was family. He was someone we laughed with, competed alongside, made memories with, and looked forward to seeing at the gym. Those moments may have seemed ordinary at the time, but today they are memories we will hold onto forever.
Steve touched so many lives, both on and off the court. As a son, dad, uncle, nino, brother, friend, and teammate, he leaves behind people who loved him deeply and will carry his memory with them always. Basketball was a special part of Steve’s life, and he left his mark on the game as a former 3-point champion and CIBACOPA champion. His accomplishments on the court were something to be proud of, but those who knew Steve will remember him for so much more than the championships and accolades—they will remember the son, the father, the brother, the man, the friend, the teammate, and the memories he gave us.
No family should have to worry about financial burdens while grieving the sudden loss of someone they love. Because Steve’s passing was so unexpected, his family is now facing the heartbreaking responsibility of saying goodbye while also managing funeral, memorial, and other unforeseen expenses.
We are asking our friends, families, teammates, basketball community, and everyone who knew and loved Steve to come together and support the Monreal family during this incredibly painful time. Our hope is not only to help give Steve the farewell he deserves, but also to surround Saleen and the entire Monreal family with the love and support they need as they face the days ahead without him.
All donations will go toward Steve’s funeral and memorial expenses and helping his family with the unexpected financial burdens surrounding his passing.
Every donation matters. No amount is too small, and every contribution is an act of love and support for Steve and his family. If you are unable to donate, please consider sharing this fundraiser. A share, a prayer, a message, or simply helping us reach more people can make a meaningful difference.
Basketball brought many of us together, but the relationships we built became something much bigger than the game.
Steve was family.
Now it is our turn to come together for him.
Let’s surround Steve’s family with love, help carry some of the weight they are facing, and give Steve the beautiful and dignified farewell he deserves.
Rest in peace, Steve Monreal. ❤️
You will be deeply missed.
You will never be forgotten.
And you will forever be a part of our family and our basketball family.
Until we meet again, brother. ️
And for everyone who knew Steve on the court, there’s one thing that will always bring a smile to our faces. If you ever asked Steve, “Who can guard you?” his answer was always the same:
“Nobody.”
That was Steve. Confident, competitive, and always ready to hoop.
And you know what, Steve? You were right. Nobody. ❤️
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for every donation, every share, every prayer, and every message of love and support for the Monreal family during this heartbreaking time.
