A Bright Light Gone Too Soon

It is with unimaginable sorrow that we share the heartbreaking news of the passing of our beloved daughter, sister, student, and friend — Sophia Subedi, who tragically left us at the age of 9 during a family visit to Hershey Park.

Sophia was born in 2016 at Mount Carmel, in Columbus, Ohio — a joyful and curious child who brought boundless energy and light into every room she entered. In 2022, her family moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where Sophi quickly made a home in the community and touched many hearts with her warm smile and generous spirit.

She had just completed 3rd grade at North Side Elementary in the Central Dauphin School District and was eagerly looking forward to starting 4th grade. A bright student with a love for reading, music, and painting, Sophia often spoke of her dreams to become a teacher — someone who could share knowledge and kindness with others the way her favorite teachers did with her.

Those who knew Sophia remember her not just for her brilliance and curiosity, but also for her compassion. She made friends easily and looked out for others — often the first to offer help, share her snacks, or hold someone’s hand when they were scared or sad. She loved dancing in the living room with her little cousins, holding her mom’s hand on evening walks, and singing along to her favorite Nepali songs on long car rides.

This GoFundMe has been created by friends and community members in support of the Subedi family during this profoundly difficult time. The funds will go toward memorial and funeral expenses, as well as efforts to create a meaningful tribute in Sophia’s honor — one that reflects her love for children, community, and kindness.

We hope to turn this loss into a legacy — perhaps by supporting children's safety initiatives, advocating for awareness, or creating a small space in her name where kids and families can feel safe, loved, and connected.
