Our hearts are broken as we share the sudden and tragic loss of Sergio “Tito” Reyes.

On the night of June 5, Tito’s life was tragically taken in Hanalei, Kauaʻi. His passing was sudden, violent, senseless, and completely undeserved, leaving his family, friends, coworkers, and the North Shore community devastated. While the investigation continues, our focus is on honoring Tito’s life, remembering the incredible man he was, and supporting the family he loved and helped provide for.

Tito was 37 years old. He first called Kauaʻi home when he moved here at 22, and over the years, he became a deeply loved part of the North Shore community. To so many of us, Tito was much more than an employee, coworker, or friend — he became family. He was the kind of person who became part of your life without trying. He showed up with kindness, a helping hand, warmth, laughter, and a heart that people could truly feel.

Tito worked at Federico’s, where he brought passion, pride, and real skill to the culinary arts. He was extremely hardworking, dependable, and took pride in everything he did. He had strong attention to detail and cared deeply about his work, but what made Tito truly special was not only how hard he worked — it was how deeply he cared about the people around him.

He touched so many lives every day. Tito had many friends across the North Shore and throughout Kauaʻi, and he became part of not only our family, but many other families in the community. He was loved like a brother. He was someone people expected to see at family gatherings, dinners, beach days, and simple moments together. Whether it was at work, at the beach, or just sharing dinner and a beer after a long day, Tito brought joy, laughter, and love wherever he went.

Tito had a deep passion for music and DJing, cars, art, the beach, and the island of Kauaʻi. He loved spending time by the ocean, especially looking out at the water from the Kalihiwai lookout. He loved going for cruises in his car around the island, enjoying the place he called home and the community that loved him back. His life was full of the simple things he loved, and he had a way of making those moments feel special to the people around him.

Most of all, Tito loved his family. He was depended on by many, especially his loved ones in Guatemala. Tito regularly sent money home and helped provide for his family there. His passing has left them grieving an unimaginable loss while also facing sudden financial hardship.

The need for funds will go toward Tito’s family is in Guatemala, and we want to bring him home so his loved ones can lay him to rest. The costs of transporting him back to Guatemala, funeral arrangements, memorial expenses, required paperwork, and transportation are significant and unexpected. The funds raised will help cover those expenses, along with direct financial support for Tito’s family. Any remaining funds after funeral and transportation costs will go directly to his family as they grieve and adjust to life without his love, presence, and support.
