It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of Sergio Barrios-Roman, who left us on January 19, 2026, surrounded by the family he loved so dearly.

Sergio’s journey with stage 4 colon cancer began in 2019. Throughout those years, he faced every challenge with a quiet strength and a grace that inspired everyone around him. Even on his hardest days, Sergio never stopped showing up for the people in his life, leading with a genuine warmth and generosity that defined who he was.

Above all else, Sergio was a family man. He was a devoted husband to Melissa, a proud father to Sofia, and the most loving grandfather to Poppy. They were his world, his greatest pride, and his absolute joy. Everything he built and every hard day he fought through was rooted in his love for them.

Many of you knew Sergio as the heart behind River City Bakery, Bean Heads, Fluid Espresso Bar, Barrio, and Venus Taproom. These places were never just businesses to him. They were how he brought people together, places where friendships grew, and neighbors felt like family. Sergio believed in the power of community, and he lived that belief every single day.

When he wasn’t working, Sergio found his peace on his bike, enjoying the freedom of the open road. Whether he was out cycling, serving a neighbor, or sharing a laugh with a friend, he lived with a beautiful sense of heart. He was truly the kind of person who would give you the shirt off his back without a second thought.
