On July 9, 2026, our railroad family suffered a heartbreaking loss. Brother Scott Shoemaker, a proud member of SMART-TD Local 0002 in Toledo, Ohio, was tragically killed while on duty.
Scott was a dedicated Norfolk Southern conductor for 22 years. He was known for his kindness, unwavering work ethic, and, above all, his deep love for his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 36 years, Carol, his children, Melissa and Joshua, and many extended family members who are grieving this unimaginable loss.
Outside of work, Scott enjoyed cheering on the Fighting Irish, reluctantly rooting for the Cincinnati Reds, and making treasured memories with Carol in the Smoky Mountains, one of their favorite places together.
As Scott’s family faces the difficult days ahead, we are asking for your support. Every donation will go directly toward helping Carol and their family with whatever they need during this incredibly challenging time, allowing them to focus on healing rather than financial burdens.
No contribution is too small, and if you’re unable to donate, sharing this fundraiser with others is another meaningful way to help.
Thank you for honoring Scott’s memory and for showing Carol, Melissa, and Joshua, that they are surrounded by a community that cares.
