This is something that no one ever wants to do, but I need to ask for help for my brother, Scott Harper.
Scott had a stroke on 7/23/2025. They found a mass; it was Glioblastoma (for my non-medical friends, that is a non-curable and aggressive brain cancer). He chose surgery, and on 7/27/2025, he had surgery to remove some of the tumor. Sadly, with the surgery, he lost use of his left side. He had many hospital and rehab days, always being positive he was going to get better and walk again. He did both radiation and chemotherapy. His joke was like in the song in Jungle Book: "You put one foot in front of the other." He has been in a Fairmont, WV nursing facility, and although brain cancer was swiftly taking him away, he still had capacity (he could make his own decisions). He got COVID about a month ago, and he started declining rapidly. We put him in hospice care on Thursday, February 5th.
My brother was a handyman. He always fixed things for people, never charging enough and always doing the right thing. He was also a self-labeled "grute artist" in his drawings and chainsaw carvings. He loved animals and nature, always making sure the deer had water, the berries had the right sun, and found use for almost everything. For the past few years, I have been going to WV every couple of weeks to fill his freezer with my "leftovers" and make sure he had food in the refrigerator. I spoke to him two times every day, and when I couldn't get in touch with him for more than two days, I would drive to his house to make sure he was still alive. He would see me and say, "What are you doing here?" The life my brother lived was simple. It has just been my brother and me since our parents died.
Scott is deeply religious. He used to tell me GOD will help me find a way, and he would quote some scripture.
I'm asking for help to pay for my brother's burial expenses as he had no insurance policies to help with the costs. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
Thank you.
