This page has been created to honour the life, love, and legacy of Sandra Bond, or as we all knew and loved her, Sandy.
Sandy was born in 1945 to her mother Jessie and was an only child, growing up in Berkshire, Reading during the post-war era. In 1967, she married her childhood sweetheart, Bill, and began working as a bookkeeper and office worker.
Sandy’s life later took a meaningful turn and she became a foster carer, initially caring for children in the local community. Then, after placing an ad in the newspaper, she began privately caring for children from Nigerian families who had migrated to the UK. Parents could be at peace knowing their children were safe with Sandy. She loved kids and often took in the neighbours' children as well.
Sandy had a deep love for animals and enjoyed knitting. She would often knit matching jumpers, scarves, and hats from scratch for all the children in her care.
If there’s one thing we can all learn from Sandy, it’s the importance of love, an open heart, and an open mind.
We are raising funds to allow all loved ones to contribute towards honouring her memory by setting up something meaningful and creating a lasting tribute in her name. We welcome all suggestions in the comments and would love to hear how you think Sandy should be remembered.
Thank you for helping us keep Sandy’s memory alive. Whether you donate or share this page, your support means so much.
With love and gratitude,
Family & Friends of Sandy
