Honoring Salim's Legacy: Support His Family

Donation protected
Salim Laverpool was a devoted father, son, and brother, deeply cherished by all who knew him. His devotion to family and friends was unmistakable, and he exemplified loyalty. Those close to Salim knew him as a constant source of support—always ready to listen, give advice, or lend a helping hand.

Growing up in East New York, Brooklyn, Salim faced both challenges and triumphs. Despite his hardships, he continually sought personal growth. After graduating from public school, Salim went back to school to receive his Associate in Liberal Arts from Medgar Evers and a Master's in Public Administration from City College, nurturing a love for knowledge that shaped him into a well-rounded individual. He was known for his thoughtful insights, strong opinions, and sensitivity to others' needs.

Salim's dynamic personality was reflected in his diverse passions. He had a deep interest in politics and history, always eager to engage in discussions about current issues. He was also a fashion enthusiast with a sneaker collection in the hundreds. With a keen eye for style, he explored boutiques, thrift shops, and department stores to curate a wardrobe that showcased his undeniable confidence and creativity.

Beyond his personal interests, Salim dedicated himself to the community. He was a co-founder of A Family’s Promise Inc., a nonprofit organization created to support families affected by gun violence. Each year, he helped host a community barbecue that brought healing, connection, and joy to families navigating unimaginable loss. His work left a lasting mark of compassion and unity.

On May 23, 2025, Salim’s life was tragically altered when he was severely injured in a car accident. He was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck by an individual driving a stolen car at high speed. Despite initial signs of recovery, a critical medical oversight led to devastating consequences. A failure to prescribe essential blood-thinning medication caused life-threatening blood clots to form, ultimately leading to a sudden pulmonary embolism that took his life far too soon on August 14, 2025.

Salim’s passing has left his family heartbroken. His mother, children, brother, and grandchildren feel an irreplaceable void. His six-year-old son, accustomed to daily FaceTime calls with his father, now longs to continue those conversations with him in Heaven. His children and grandchildren will miss his wisdom, laughter, and the love that radiated from him. His mother mourns the absence of her son’s steady presence, a reassurance she cherished deeply.

Salim’s life, though cut short, was filled with love, resilience, and purpose. He will be remembered not only for his intellect, style, and humor, but for his unwavering devotion to family and his commitment to making the world a better place for others.

This GoFundMe was created with the blessing of Sal’s mother, Kellie Nixon. Ms. Kelly is the beneficiary of this GoFundMe, and all of the money raised will go directly to her. It will be used to pay for Salim’s funeral services and expenses, and the balance of the funds raised will be distributed to his children and grandchildren.

with love and support,
