This week, our family lost someone truly special, and our community lost a friend to so many. Robert Austin passed away far too soon at just 42 years old.

Robert loved his family deeply and cared about the people in his life in ways that didn’t need words. He was also an Eagle Scout, something he was proud of and something that reflected how he lived, always trying to do the right thing and look out for others.

For nearly 20 years, Robert was a pillar of the Pensacola restaurant and service industry. If you ever walked into a bar or restaurant where Robert was working, you immediately felt welcomed. He never met a stranger, whether you were a lifelong Pensacola local, military stationed here temporarily, or someone just trying to find your footing in a new place. Robert made everyone feel like they belonged.

He worked tirelessly, not just behind the bar or on the floor, but for the people around him. He carried the weight of others without hesitation, always offering a smile, a listening ear, or a steady presence to anyone who needed it.

Robert’s passing leaves behind a loving family and a community that feels his absence deeply. In his final weeks, he faced significant medical challenges and mounting medical expenses after being transferred to Shands Hospital in Gainesville under the care of University of Florida physicians. When his body could no longer sustain treatment, Robert was brought back to Pensacola so he could spend his final hours surrounded by close friends and family.

Like so many in the bar and restaurant industry, Robert did not have health or life insurance benefits. This fundraiser is to help support our family with the medical expenses and costs associated with his passing during this incredibly difficult time.
