Rickey Dumas III was a graduating senior at Benton Harbor High School and a wonderful young man who touched the lives of everyone around him. As a member of the Peace4Life Leadership Academy, Rickey was more than just a student—he was family. I had the privilege of working directly with him, supporting him daily and witnessing his growth, resilience, and joy. Rickey recently started his job at Meijer, and the pride he felt was evident in his smile and his spirit. He was becoming the person he aspired to be, and his story was one we hoped to share during our Peace Day Reunion because he truly represented brotherhood and hope.

Rickey had a unique ability to connect with people. He carried a spirit that pulled others in, making friends wherever he went. Young people loved him, adults loved him, and he could walk into a room and instantly brighten it. My office won’t feel the same without his daily visits to talk, laugh, check in, or simply be present. This loss hurts deeply—not just for me, but for everyone who knew him. To Rickey’s family, please know that Benton Harbor wrapped its arms around your son. He mattered here. He was seen, celebrated, and loved. We are praying for strength, comfort, and peace during this unbearable time.
