My dad spent many years battling multiple serious health conditions, and anyone who knew him knew just how strong he was. Defying all odds, he survived an incredibly rare blood and kidney disease in his early 20s. In his 60s, he underwent two heart valve replacements, survived endocarditis and sepsis twice, and lived with liver failure far longer than most would have expected. His drive, stubbornness, and deep love and spiritual connection to life gave us years more with him than medicine ever could have promised. He was even able to see me graduate in 2023.

He was deeply spiritual and felt connected to the fabric of the universe was one of the few people who knew what the true essence of life was all about. He gave everything and expected nothing in return, finding joy in sharing a good meal, listening to good music, and appreciating the simple things that make life meaningful. This unparalleled perspective is something I will forever cherish.

Late on the evening of Saturday, March 8, my dad left this earthly plane and entered a place where he will know no more pain, anxiety, or worry. I know he is reunited with loved ones and is watching over us. He’s now one of our spirit guides he used to tell me so much about. Through our love and memories, he will always remain with us.

Like my dad, I find it difficult to ask for help, but final arrangements, even with minimal services, are incredibly expensive. Cremation services total about $2,000, cemetery fees are around $750, and at the moment I have only been able to afford a temporary plastic urn. A permanent urn seem to cost between $300 and $500.

I know money is increasingly tight for so many people right now. Any contribution, no matter the amount, would mean the world.

During all of this, I have been deeply humbled by the love and support I have received, and by how uniquely the universe aligned to allow me to spend meaningful time with both him and my mom over this past year.

We love you, Pops, forever and always.
