Randy Piper's Journey

Donation protected
As many may or may not know, my mom's husband, Randy Piper has been fighting his battle with cancer for many years. In December 2012, he was originally diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma of the brain and spine and received treatment in Milwaukee.  Then, in October 2013 he was diagnosed with Optical Cancer. He went through chemotherapy and radiation and was hospitalized for a long time at the VA Hospital and Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee, WI. After treatment, he was in remission and continued with physical, occupational, speech therapy and more. Also during remission Randy suffered a heart attack and had open heart surgery in December 2017 at MGH.

Through everything, he always remained a fighter.  Unfortunately, with much sadness, the lymphoma returned in February 2019 and was diagnosed with CNS Lymphoma of the brain and spine which is an aggressive and rare non Hodgkins Lymphoma.  While going through this year's treatment, Randy was hospitalized at the VA in Milwaukee until August. In August 2019 he was transferred to the VA in Iron Mountain to continue with chemotherapy.  Of course, while it's great that he is closer to family, he endured another set-back.  Randy fell and had a hip replacement at DCH in Iron Mountain.

With all of the traveling to/from Iron Mountain and Milwaukee (including gas, lodging, food), missed time from work, prescriptions and co-payments throughout the past 7 years, the costs all add up, especially for a family of three.  Some may not know, but Randy and my mom have been raising their granddaughter, Lilah who is nine.

Randy is a strong fighter and will fight the lymphoma until the very end. His strong personality and nature has not and will not allow him to give up easy. He has had unwavering support from my mom who has been by his side throughout this journey.  His family and friends have also been uplifting and supportive.

Last week, my mom was informed that Randy's time here with us is very limited. My mom is now facing funeral expenses in addition to all of the other expenses that accrued in last several years.  Although many think that all funeral expenses are covered by the VA, they are not.

I am asking for monetary donations to help them through this very difficult time. Anything would be appreciated.

While I know this is a busy (and expensive) time for people as the holiday's are amongst us, my family welcome's any and all prayers and well wishes.

Truly, from the bottom of my heart, thank you so much for any consideration.

Sincerely,
Lydia Bryan
