Peter’s life was shaped by both hardship and hope. From childhood, he faced mental health challenges and spent most of his years in foster care, separated from his siblings. There are seven of us who survived the foster care system, but Peter’s journey was especially difficult. After COVID, he lost contact with us and found himself alone on the streets of Sacramento. Despite our efforts, we couldn’t find him. Last week, we received the call that changed our lives forever—Peter was found unresponsive and, after a week, was pronounced brain dead. At just 37, he was taken from us far too soon.
Peter’s heart was always with his family. Even through separation and struggle, he dreamed of all of us being together, sharing forgiveness and love. He cherished every sibling, and his greatest wish was for us to create beautiful memories as a family. Peter forgave our mom, understanding her pain and showing empathy that touched us all. He gave everything he had to his siblings, always trying to protect us and bring joy into our lives. He adored his nieces and nephew, and his unique humor and wit made every moment brighter. Music was his therapy, and his singing filled our hearts. Peter was committed to God, believing he would one day be embraced by his heavenly father. Though he never had the chance to marry or have children, his love for family was boundless. We miss him deeply, and it breaks our hearts that we never got to say goodbye.
Peter’s legacy shines brightest in his final act of generosity. As a donor, Peter will give four people the gift of life—his heart, lungs, liver, and kidneys will help others live to spend precious time with their families, even as his own was taken from him too soon. His rare blood type may save many more. Through this selfless act, Peter’s spirit continues to touch lives, offering hope and healing to families who might otherwise lose their loved ones. The funds raised will help us honor Peter’s memory—covering funeral and memorial expenses, allowing all seven siblings to travel and be together for his celebration of life, and helping us stay in contact and visit one another more often as Peter would have loved. One day, we hope to meet the recipient of Peter's heart, to hear it beating in another and feel his presence. As siblings, we are now the pulse that will keep his good memories alive. Thank you for understanding our needs and for supporting us during this sudden loss. Your kindness not only helps our family, but also honors Peter’s wish to bring hope and healing to others. His spirit will live on in every life he touches.
