On Christmas Day this year, my brother and I lost our dad, Pete Darrach. He was still working full time at Ramos Oil Company, where he dedicated the last 37 years of his life. Our dad was a man with a big heart, always ready to help in and outside of his community. Whether it was at church, where he donated his time and played drums with the worship team, or in Sacramento’s Celebrate Recovery program, he gave his love and support to everyone he could. Pete was well known for his huge vegetable garden, working tirelessly every year to grow as many vegetables and community-famous tomatoes as possible, which he would share with anyone and everyone. The Saturday we found him, he was already planning to meet a friend to gather manure for the upcoming garden season—something he did almost every weekend to ensure his two-acre garden thrived. Our dad Pete was loved by many and will never be forgotten because of the friends he made, the sacrifices he gave, and the love he spread throughout his 69 years with us all. My brother and I, along with our wives and children, are trying to raise funds to give him the end-of-life treatment he deserves and to honor his legacy. The funds will help cover funeral home costs, the church, flowers, plot, tombstone, and a future celebration of life where we hope to invite anyone who would like to celebrate Pete’s life. We weren’t sure how to handle all the costs and arrangements, but many friends and family suggested a GoFundMe because of the many people who might want to help. Anything would be a blessing, but if you’re a friend, family member, or just someone with a giving heart and helping would be a burden, our dad would say please don’t give funds—just prayers. Thank you all for your support and for helping us honor our dad’s memory.
