Hello! My name is Nikki (Shar-Nequi) and I'm helping my really good friend, who has become more of a sister to me, Cherie Tyler, raise funeral funds for her father Paul Tentler. Paul, a Green Beret, Airborne Ranger, member of the U.S. Army Special Forces, loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and most importantly, the man with a wicked sense of humor, was unexpectedly rushed to the hospital on November 4th, 2025. I don’t think any of us who were there will ever forget the slow motion terror of that day. Cherie and I spent the night in his hospital room, two adults reverted back to scared teenager’s, almost stranded in a suffocating uncertainty as we tried to understand the different alarms and numbers changing across his machine. Paul spent many years battling Alzheimer’s. Those who are familiar with this disease, will understand it’s cruel unpredictable ways, where it’s progression is not reliably predicted by its timeline in which the initial onset begins. Changes are likely to unfold across a span of years or just compressed into a single day. Nothing could prepare any of us for the harrowing phone call that was received on November 13th, 2025 when the doctors called Cherie to let her know the man we all know as Paul, had passed away. This news came as Cherie was attempting to find hospice care for her father who had seemed to be responding moderately well after coming out of the ICU. The sudden turn of events have taken an immense toll, both mentally and physically on my good friend. Now, the significant and unexpected financial burden adds to an already unpredictable and difficult time. Without a policy to fall back on, the cost for funeral expenses have fallen entirely on Paul’s only child Cherie, who had taken the sole responsibility of caregiver throughout Paul’s diagnosis and immediately following the passing of her mother, Paul’s wife Cornelia “Cony” Tentler, in 2018. Paul, a dedicated war hero has served his country and family with honor. He deserves a peaceful rest and I’m hoping others will help me take this chance to serve his family in a time of need.
