Honoring Anne Marie
Donation protected
Hi Everyone ❤️
My sister and I have been tentative about posting this GoFundMe page as asking for financial assistance is always a bit uncomfortable. We know not everyone is in the right position to help, but wanted to reach out to the friends and family who have been with us through losing our mom, as we believe need a bit of extra financial help to honor her life properly.
As many of you know, our family lost our father to brain cancer back in 2007. Five years after he passed, our mother, Anne Marie, was diagnosed with Early-Onset Alzheimer’s disease at the age of 54. After her diagnosis, our mom battled her disease for eight long years, speaking at Alzheimer’s Awareness events and advocating for Alzheimer’s Research along the way, until she passed on February 3rd, 2019. It was a long journey that took quite an emotional toll on us and took the life of our beloved mother much too soon.
Additionally, during the eight years that our mom was sick, $400,000 of her savings ended up going towards her care (doctor’s appointments, medication, her assisted living home bills, hospital visits etc.) as Alzheimer’s is an extremely expensive disease. On top of the heartache this disease leaves families with, the financial strife that comes with caring for an Alzheimer’s patient can leave families feeling broken, and honoring them in the right way can feel financially impossible.
We’re grateful to say that, due to the kind financial gifts from my co-workers on SEAL TEAM and from our mother’s childhood friends, we’ve been able to travel down the coast of California and spread our parents’ ashes together in some of their favorite places. We are also fortunate to say we’ll be using some of that on our trip to Bali as well, where we’re hoping to relax and reflect upon our parents’ incredible lives.
That said, there are still a lot of things to pay for when a loved one passes, and we need some help. Between legal fees, obtaining copies of both of our parents’ death certificates, switching over our parents’ property into our names etc etc, we’re feeling a bit bogged down financially. Of course, we are more fortunate than most to have the love and support we have received thus far, and in no way expect contributions from those who can’t contribute. We are already so grateful for the love and support we’ve received from you all and were overwhelmed by the many familiar faces at our mom’s service. She will be missed. Thank you all.
Much Love,
Alison & Emily Hunter
