It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Oscar Urteaga, which occurred on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at 4:30 AM. In light of this loss, we are seeking financial contributions to help cover the costs of his funeral, which will take place in Lima, Peru, as well as the palliative care expenses for Oscar’s mother, Estela Luz “Chela” Cabrera, who is 97 years old. Oscar devoted nearly a decade to caring for her.

Background:

In late March 2025, Oscar was diagnosed with cancer affecting his stomach and the lining of his intestines. After consultations with multiple doctors and careful consideration of all options, he underwent surgery on May 30, 2025, which involved complete removal of his stomach. For a few days after the surgery, he seemed to show progress in his recovery. However, on June 7, 2025, he experienced complications that necessitated a second emergency surgery, and sadly, he did not recover from this procedure, passing away early the next morning.

About Oscar:

Oscar was a charismatic individual who loved to bring joy, laughter, and positive experiences to those around him. He was born and raised in the Callao district of Lima, Peru, and graduated from Leoncio Prado Military Academy. As an adult, he immigrated to the United States and became a legal citizen, living in San Francisco, California; Honolulu, Hawaii; and San Diego, California. Oscar worked in Hospitality Management and retired in 2009 as the Area General Manager for Denny's Corporation. In his personal life, he cherished spending time with family and friends, often hosting lively gatherings filled with delicious food and laughter.

He is survived by his two children, Oscar-Nicholas and Christopher; his mother, Estela Luz “Chela” Cabrera; his sister, Anita; and his partner and fiancée, Laura G. For the past ten years, Oscar has been a dedicated caregiver to his 97-year-old mother.
