Honoring Niloo: Support for Her Mother’s Grief & Funeral Costs
On September 25, 2025, our dear friend Niloofar “Niloo” Khazrabakht sent her final goodbyes. Despite immediate calls from at least five of us, urgent welfare checks, and her mother driving from Grand Forks to Fargo in under an hour, Niloo did not receive the emergency response she deserved. Police told those concerned that they were "too busy" and that maybe she had just gone for a walk. Hours passed before the police finally began searching. By then, precious daylight was gone. Niloo was found the next day.
Could the outcome have been different if the police had taken immediate action? We will never know.
Niloo was only 31 and preparing to go to medical school. She was a vibrant, brilliant, kind soul who loved deeply and lifted those around her. She was her mother’s only child and only family in the U.S.. Now, her mother faces unimaginable grief, overwhelming funeral expenses, and the heavy burden of navigating this loss alone in a country far from extended family.
We are raising funds to:
Support Niloo’s mother with funeral and burial costs
Help her mother take time to grieve without financial stress
Create a lasting memorial to honor Niloo’s life and spirit
No mother should ever have to bury her only child. Niloo’s mother is enduring this heartbreak without family nearby, and her friends have become her community of support. Together, we want to lighten her load.
Please consider donating what you can and sharing this fundraiser so Niloo’s story is heard and her mother receives the support she needs. Every contribution, no matter the size, will help ease the financial and emotional burden during this devastating time.
Niloo deserved better. And now, the very least we can do is stand beside her mother as she grieves.
Thank you for helping us honor Niloo’s memory with love and compassion.
