It is with heavy hearts that we announce that Mya Cantorez died unexpectedly on February 27th, 2026 at 37 years old. She was creative, brilliant, and driven to make an impact in the world. She was a leader within the LGBTQ community, an advocate, and a dear friend, and her loss will be felt by many.

Mya viewed death as sacred and even studied to become a death doula. She felt strongly about earth-friendly aftercare and her family and loved ones hope to honor her wishes. However, there are limited funds and without assistance, the family can only afford the most basic of aftercare.

Mya’s family and loved ones are asking for support to help cover funeral expenses as we honor Mya’s life and memory. Any contribution, no matter the amount, will help ease the financial burden on the family and allow them to focus on remembering and celebrating Mya’s life.

Our minimum goal is to raise $4,000 to cover the costs of Aquamation and minor incidentals. If we are able to raise a total of $5,800, we will also be able to include Parting Stones which Mya would have loved. Anything over that amount will go towards helping Mya's family with the costs of coming down to Los Angeles from Merced and any lodging they may need.
