Today I woke up to everyone's worst nightmare. After waking up, realizing that my sister hadn't woken her bird up yet, I went to go check on her and found that she had passed away.
My sister was struggling with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome Type 3, which is a very uncommon connective tissue disorder. Her everyday life was what most would call unbearable. She was in constant pain, suffering from dislocations from things as simple as trying to support herself standing up. She was basically bedridden for as long as I can remember.
In the past few years, she started having seizures. The first one in August of 2022, where she was in the hospital for a few days and doctors couldn't find anything wrong. Next was in May of 2025, then October, then December, and then February of this year. Every time, none of the tests gave us any answers. This morning when I went to go check on her, it was to make sure she wasn't having another seizure. I found her then and called 911 immediately. They pronounced her dead on the scene, and we're awaiting any testing to determine what caused it.
I'm writing today and asking for help because my family has been barely hanging on for the past few years. My mother was recently diagnosed with dementia, and my father has been on Social Security Disability since 2008. We were priced out of our home in Massachusetts in 2022 and moved to Nevada to try and build a more stable life in an area that we hoped would have enough variety of medical specialists for all of the issues my family deals with.
We're hoping to raise money to be able to bring her back home and have a proper send-off with our extended family. I'm the only person in my family capable of working, and with the disabilities everyone around me has, I've found it extremely difficult to take care of them while working myself.
Thank you for reading my story.
