My name is Paige Trotter, and I am raising funds in memory of my loving uncle, Steve Nicol. Steve was truly one of the most caring and generous people I have ever known. He had a gift for making others feel seen and valued, always offering a listening ear, a warm smile, and an open heart. His laughter brightened every room, and his compassion reached family, friends, neighbors, and even strangers. His love for art and his gentle, creative spirit inspired everyone around him. Losing him has left a deep ache in our hearts and in our community.

For the last five to six years, Steve struggled with a difficult and painful battle with addiction. This struggle eventually left him without stable housing, and despite his strength and the love around him, he faced more obstacles than anyone should ever have to endure. Our family watched him fight sometimes with hope, sometimes with exhaustion, but always with the same kindness in his heart. He deserved so much more support, compassion, and care than the world offered him.

We recently lost Steve to a tragic fentanyl overdose in San Francisco. The grief is overwhelming, and the reality that addiction and homelessness took someone so loving from us is something we are still trying to understand. This devastating loss brought unexpected funeral expenses and opened our eyes even more to the urgent need for accessible mental health resources, addiction support, and humane treatment for vulnerable communities.

As we grieve, we are determined to honor Steve’s memory by spreading awareness and helping others who may be facing the same struggles he did. The funds raised through this GoFundMe will help our family cover Steve’s funeral expenses and celebrate his life in the way he deserves.
