My father was 59 years old and died in a drowning accident while trying to save his girlfriend's son. Tragically, both my father and the child passed away. My dad lost himself after my mother died, and for a while, we lost touch. Just recently, we had reconnected and were working to rebuild our relationship. That brought a light back into my life that I hadn’t felt in a long time. We talked about future plans, including my wedding, and he was so excited to see me walk down the aisle one day.

Now, as I sit here trying to figure out how to cover the expenses to bury my father, I am utterly distraught. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would have to bury both my parents at 33 years old. My father may not have succeeded in saving the boy, but he sacrificed his life for someone he loved like his own. I am so proud of him and the courage he showed.
