On Thursday, August 7th, my dad did what he always did best — he held on tight, fought hard, and knew when it was time to let go— and he peacefully exited stage left. If you knew him, you know he’d probably be-lovingly of course-strutting away to the sarcastic tune “Fuc**This Sh*t I’m Out” with a smirk on his face, to put a smile on ours.

He battled his curveball of a stage 4 cancer diagnosis, with strength, humility and humor.

He wasn’t just a husband and father…

he was the Fah-zah (Goldmember pronunciation required by him), a Grampy, Great-Grampy, and an Olympic-level friend. He lived for the Dodgers, enjoyed the Chargers and somehow, at 72, was still snowboarding like he had a sponsorship deal. He could handle a golf club, a fishing pole, a kayak paddle, a guitar, and a firearm, sometimes all in the same weekend.

Dad loved the water, music, and movies, he loved his coffee, and loved his people even more and he showed it in every way. No judgement, lots of jokes, all the love.

We want to give him the kind of send-off that would make him proud, or at least make him roll his eyes and mutter, “Well, that’s excessive” — but the truth is, the costs aren’t small. If you can pitch in, it’ll help us give him the farewell he earned, and maybe even a little extra flair just to annoy him.
