Honoring Mr. Kerwin's Decades of Dedication

Hi my name is Patrick Makin and I attended Nativity of Our Lord School in Orchard Park, NY and graduated in 1990. While in junior high I was lucky to have many great teachers, but one in particular was one of the best teachers I had in my entire academic career. Michael Kerwin taught social studies for grades 6, 7 and 8 and later became the Spanish teacher and assistant principal. He taught me, two of my siblings and both of my children. All of us have wonderful memories of an educator who could seemingly effortlessly impart knowledge in a variety of ways as well as an appreciation for the subject being taught. He instilled discipline and set high standards but made sure to reach every student in his class. I was so happy my children were able to learn from him as well.

I just learned that he gave notice of his retirement after teaching at Nativity for over 40 years across 5 decades but he wanted it kept confidential as he did not want any fanfare. His retirement is certainly well deserved and his successor is actually a student he taught! I am putting together this fundraiser to see if other former students and Nativity families and friends would be interested in contributing towards a gift to him as a small gesture to acknowledge the tremendous and lasting positive impact he had over the years on the students he taught.
