The Legacy of Excellence

The PHS Marching Band Alumni Committee would like to congratulate the current Marching Band Members on finishing their season strong! We hope you find comfort knowing that you have made the city of Passaic proud, not only with your music, but with your leadership, drive, and perseverance.

This GoFundMe page was originally created to help offset costs to honor Mr. Rusca in a celebration for his service and dedication to the city of Passaic. However, throughout the planning for the event and interacting with the current band members, The Alumni Committee knew we could not just stop there…we know that together we are stronger and we must continue to support our band brothers and sisters.

As mentioned previously, we believe that establishing a scholarship is a fitting way to carry forward his legacy and support future generations in their pursuit of excellence. After costs for The Legacy of Excellence Celebration, we are left with a little under $2,000. While the goal is still open for how much we hope to raise, we are certain that we would like this legacy to continue for many years to come. With that being said, we humbly ask for those willing and able to donate to “The Legacy of Excellence” Scholarship.

9/12/23 UPDATE:

We would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude for joining us at the Legacy of Excellence celebration on Saturday, September 9th, in honor of Christopher Rusca and his remarkable 21 years of dedication and service.

We are excited to share some exciting news with you. The Alumni Committee, which coordinated this event, has decided to channel some of the generous donations we received towards the creation of a scholarship in Rusca's honor.

“The Legacy of Excellence” Scholarship

As we all know, if he has taught us anything, it is the value of giving back. We believe that establishing a scholarship is a fitting way to carry forward his legacy and support future generations in their pursuit of excellence.

We will keep you updated on the progress of the scholarship. We look forward to the positive impact that the Chris Rusca Legacy of Excellence Scholarship will have on deserving individuals in the future.

As you all know, Mr. Rusca will soon be leaving the district of Passaic Public Schools. Over the last couple of decades, he has served as a band director, mentor, and for many, a father figure. Mr. Rusca has instilled some of the most essential values and skills in us throughout our experiences while working with him. Because of him, many of us are successful professionals and parents. He has dedicated his life to empowering the youth and spreading love through music. It is only right for us to honor him one more time and give him the flowers he so deserves.
