Honoring My Mom After a Sudden Loss — Seeking Support for Funeral & Unexpected Costs
---
On November 15, 2025, our family suffered an unexpected and devastating tragedy with the sudden passing of my mom. Losing her so abruptly has left us heartbroken, overwhelmed, and trying to navigate a situation we were never prepared for — emotionally or financially.
Because of the nature of her passing, she had to be transported to the medical examiner’s office in Oklahoma City, resulting in significant transportation fees, funeral home charges, necessary documents, and death certificates. These costs have become more than our family can manage on our own.
In the midst of everything, we also faced another painful situation involving my mom’s beloved dog. After being deeply traumatized by my mom’s death, her dog became extremely distressed and aggressive. She bit both me and a responding sheriff, and despite every attempt to calm her, it was clear she was suffering and no longer safe. We had to make the heartbreaking decision to have her put down. I am now responsible for those fees as well.
My husband will also be taking time away from work to support me through this extremely difficult chapter, something I am deeply grateful for, but it adds to the financial weight we are carrying during an already overwhelming time.
We want nothing more than to give my mom the dignified, peaceful farewell she deserves, and to take care of all the unexpected responsibilities that came with her passing.
If you feel led to donate, please share this fundraiser, or simply keep our family in your prayers, we would be profoundly grateful. Every contribution, no matter how small, helps lighten a burden that feels impossibly heavy right now.
Thank you for your compassion, your kindness, and your support during the most painful moment of our lives.
A Complicated Journey, A Mother Remembered
My relationship with my mom was not a traditional one. Life separated us when I was just a child, and for many years, our paths went in very different directions. Despite the distance, the challenges, and the time apart, there was always a part of me that hoped we might someday find our way back to each other.
This past fall, after nearly fifteen years without contact, a friend of my mother's reached out to tell me that my mom had not been doing well and was trying to find me. I opened the door for her to come be near me, and she did. We spent the short time we had trying to reconnect, learning who we had become, and rebuilding something. It wasn’t a perfect reconciliation, but it was a chance — and I am grateful we had it.
Even though our time together was brief, I will always hold onto the fact that she sought me out, and that we tried. Her passing closed a chapter that had only just begun, and while it hurts, I am thankful for the opportunity we had to share even a little bit of healing.
I honor her not just for the mom she was, but for the mother she was trying to become again in those final weeks.
