update: Thank you for all who donated to Misty”s services. We are short about $2600 to complete her services on Aug 2, and short about another $1200 to complete her memorial (stone and tree). The total needed for everything is $7500. We are adding in a memorial dinner the night of Aug 2 we project that to cost about $2500 total for a grand total of about $10,000. Please continue to share and help me give Misty a beautiful service for her kids and mom. Mom really can’t afford to put anything in the pot right now because she had an arm injury and was unable to work this summer. Thank you.
Hello, my name is Melissa Rubio. In light of the overwhelming support from friends and family who wish to assist with the costs associated with my sister’s arrangements following her tragic and violent death, we have decided to set up this campaign to share the details we have.
Late on Saturday night, my sister was brutally murdered by the man she loved. He lured her to a new housing development on St. Charles, where he shot her and callously allowed her and the car to slide down a hill before fleeing, leaving her to die alone. This was a premeditated act driven by his obsession with her, fueled by jealousy over a day she spent with friends at a restaurant in St Louis. After returning home around 8 PM, he began calling her repeatedly. He wanted to see her and she drove over to meet him. Tragically, this led to her untimely death.
In hindsight, there were warning signs of his obsessive behavior—tracking devices on her car and cameras in her home. Sadly, Misty didn’t share these details with us, and we missed the signs.
Misty faced many challenges in life, including a troubled youth and a young marriage, but she was a mother to four wonderful children: Daniel, Isaac, Andres, and Andrea. Due to her past choices, her kids spent a lot of their childhood with me. However, over the past three years, she fought hard to turn her life around. After a near-fatal drug overdose, she reached rock bottom and made the courageous decision to get clean. She surrounded herself with supportive people, attended church regularly, and worked on rebuilding her relationship with her kids. Recently, she even had the joy of spending time with her 20-month-old grandson, Mateo.
Her children are heartbroken, feeling as though they could have done more to help her. They guarded their hearts because of her past struggles, but they need to know that their love played a vital role in her recovery. Misty fought hard for them, and she is now in God's memory, awaiting resurrection.
Just last month, Misty celebrated three years of sobriety and graduated from drug court. She overcame challenges that many never can. Her children deserve a beautiful funeral and family gathering without the burden of financial stress. If you can contribute, whether a little or a lot, your support will be deeply appreciated. All donations will go toward her expenses, and any remaining funds will establish an education fund for Mateo and any future grandchildren.
We currently have not been able to get her body released to us, it’s been being processed for evidence and unfortunately due to where she was shot we are very sure we will not be having a body viewing. We will set service info for her funeral once we have that information, we will also have a celebration of life for everyone who wish to come to that. I’d also like to take the kids together somewhere special with her memories so they can do a proper good bye.
Thank you for your kindness and generosity during this difficult time.
