Michael Levay, beloved son, husband, uncle, nephew, cousin and friend to so many, passed away on August 17, 2020.   Mike was a long-time (over a decade) public address announcer for the University of Richmond for all home basketball and football games. His enthusiastic voice was once characterized by an Athletics Director as “synonymous with Spider athletics”.  In addition to his association with University of Richmond, Mike was the long-time announcer for the Richmond Renegades Hockey League, entertaining and exciting the crowds with his roaring “Rrrrrrrrennnnegade GOAL!”. Many Richmonders will also remember Mike from his years as a radio host for multiple stations in the area.

Mike was a consummate professional, faithful friend and family man, lover of sports and animals, with a brilliant mind and sharp wit.  He never lost his sense of humor, even during his courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer. 

We want to honor this amazing and beloved man by establishing a scholarship in Mike’s name to support non-scholarship athletes at the University of Richmond. The $50,000 goal is needed to designate this as an endowed scholarship, which means the fund will be managed and awarded in perpetuity by U of R.  Once established, all donations to this scholarship will be added into the pooled endowment fund at the University, and will benefit from the growth of the overall endowment. Any and all contributions in honor of Mike’s kindness, humor, professionalism – and life cut too short – are greatly appreciated.

This fundraiser is organized by a small group of the many friends who dearly love Mike and Lynsie Levay, and we have pledged to match all contributions to the Mike Levay Memorial Scholarship fund dollar for dollar up to $15,000.
