After decades of extraordinary leadership and unwavering commitment to public service, our Executive Director, Michael J. Johnston, is retiring. Throughout his career, Mike has dedicated himself to strengthening communities, expanding access to safe and affordable housing, and advocating for those who need it most.

At our All Staff Meeting this Monday, the Cambridge Housing Authority community came together to celebrate Mike’s remarkable impact. In recognition of his legacy, staff proudly announced a collective donation in his honor to a charity of his choosing.

Mike selected The Home for Little Wanderers, a deeply meaningful choice that reflects his lifelong commitment to supporting vulnerable populations.

Founded as the oldest child welfare agency in the United States, The Home for Little Wanderers provides comprehensive, community-based, and residential services to at-risk children, youth, and families across Eastern Massachusetts. Each year, the organization serves more than 15,000 young people—from birth through age 26—offering adoption, foster care, behavioral health services, and therapeutic support to help build safe, stable, and successful futures.
