Mickey King was a great man.
He would light up a room with his smile, and if you've ever been in the same building as him, you know you could hear that laugh from several rooms away. He was never without a joke, a cigarette, and a smile. He was a joy to be around and had a gift for making everyone feel welcome, valued, and never less than. Mickey had a way of making everyone around him a better person just by being in the room.
He was an incredible carpenter, a maintenance guy who never shied away from getting his hands dirty, and an all-around supporter of his community and anyone who crossed his path. He was a natural teacher and a tireless helper. If Mickey said he'd do something, it got done. Full stop.
Mickey never turned down a question, never walked past someone who needed a hand, and never once lost that positive attitude or his best-in-the-room outlook on life.
He was the shoulder to cry on. The buddy to share a beer with. The person who showed up, every single time, without being asked.
Last year, a workplace injury led to a doctor's visit that changed everything. Tests revealed bone cancer. What followed were months of treatment, partial loss of his eyesight, and health concerns that kept piling up.
Mickey couldn't work and provide for his family the way he always had. The last moments of his journey were not the ending any of us would have written for him.
On Sunday, March 8th, we lost him suddenly. His loving wife and children are now facing the overwhelming weight of final expenses, outstanding medical bills, and the financial aftermath that follows an unexpected loss. No grieving family should have to carry that alone.
Mickey supported his community, his friends, and his family his entire life. He showed up for people without question, without hesitation, without needing to be asked twice.
Now it's our turn to show up for his family.
Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly toward helping them cover final expenses during an unimaginably difficult time.
If you can't give, please share this page. Even spreading the word makes a difference.
Thank you for loving Mickey with us.
