My most kindred spirit, my friend and housemate Michael Garcia, was senselessly killed in crossfire while driving to see his partner in NOLA. This is the most unimaginable, unexplainable, and unexpected loss. Michael was a light in so many lives, and now his family—his daughter Rue, his partner Sam, and his immediate family, and all who loved him—are left to navigate this tragedy and the many expenses that come with it.
We are raising money to help Michael’s family with living expenses and funeral costs, as well as to support causes that were close to Michael’s heart. He was passionate about helping others, especially those with mental health issues, affected by gun violence, or simply in need of a helping hand. In his honor, we are planning a celebration of life—Michael Garcia’s Bugs for Hugs festival, filled with crawfish, music, and love. We want something good to come from this tragedy, just as Michael would have wanted.
If you are able to donate, your gift will go directly to Michael’s family and to continuing his legacy of kindness. Please share this fundraiser, and if you can’t help monetarily, please live your life like Mike: shine bright, hug hard, love yourself, and don’t let any crap get you down. Thank you for helping us honor Michael’s memory and support those he loved.
