This morning we said goodbye to our OG — our grandma, Yai May Bouy, who passed peacefully in her sleep at 104 years old.
104. A whole century of sass, strength, sacrifice, and love.
In September 2022, she suffered a stroke that left her bedridden and limited her sight and speech. It was hard watching her no longer enjoy her Thai soap dramas or her casino days, because if you knew her, you knew she loved both. But even then, her attitude never left. We called her OG — Oscar the Grouch… and also Original Gangster. Both fit. She was sassy, opinionated, loving, and the glue of our family.
She immigrated from Thailand to Washington with five children and lost her husband just months later. Still, she carried on to raising her kids, loving her grandkids, and showing us what resilience and grouchiness really looks like.
After her stroke, her youngest son showed up almost every single day. He made sure she was cared for and fed her dinner with his own hands. We’re so grateful she had that kind of love and consistency in her final years. Not everyone gets someone who shows up daily. She did.
She is now reunited with her husband and the three children who went before her. That gives us peace.
We are asking for help with funeral costs, memorial services, and traditional Buddhist ceremonies to honor her life the way she deserves. If you’re able to donate, share, or keep our family in your prayers, we appreciate you more than you know.
Rest peacefully, Yai. The sass lives on.
