On March 14th, 2026, Matthew Scott, a 9-year-old little boy, and his family were involved in a tragic car accident. A car veered into the opposite lane to pass a vehicle coming head-on to them, and they had to swerve to miss it. When they did, their vehicle went into a truck. Matthew’s little siblings left the scene with no injuries. Matthew’s step-dad, Jackson, had a minor injury from a previous surgery. Matthew was unresponsive at the scene. He and his mom, Stella, were care-flighted to Cook Children’s Hospital and Harris in Fort Worth, TX. Matthew’s dad and his fiancé made the drive from Odessa to be at the hospital with him. Stella had been admitted with some injuries and was later released. Matthew had major injuries, neurological damage, and more. He never woke up after being put on life support and multiple tests being run. His body went too long without oxygen, and with his body suffering major injuries, on March 17th, Matthew became brain dead. His family had to remove him from life support. We are all thankful to know that he didn’t suffer from any pain after his accident. His family, parents, older and younger siblings had to say their goodbyes. Matthew was an amazing, respectful, and goofy little boy who had a huge heart and loved his family. He did not deserve for this to happen.
The message I hope and wish that this gives to you is please do not rush, be patient, drive safe, and follow the rules. This could have been avoided; you could take a life.
Any donations are greatly appreciated. They will go towards any costs for the funeral and memorial for Matthew. Anything after that will help the family of Matthew with any costs to help get through this hard time.
