Our community was shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of one of our own, Matthew Backus, on January 1st, 2026. Matt grew up and began his own family in the town that he loved, and was a bright spark, gentle soul, and kind spirit to all who were lucky enough to land in his orbit.

We are raising funds to cover not only the immense costs of medical care, cremation, and funerary services, but also to help provide support for Matt's two children, Liam and Aria, who were the center of his universe. These contributions will help ensure they are supported in the days ahead—allowing them to focus on healing while honoring the love of their father. Any donation, no matter the amount, will help ease their burden and allow Matt's family to focus on simply being together.
