Martin Prosper, affectionately known as “25,” passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2025. He was a devoted brother, uncle, and friend who left a legacy of love, generosity, resilience, and service. Born in a town near St. Louis Du Nord, Haiti, Martin's journey to the United States was fraught with challenges. In search for a better life, when the boat he was on traveling from the Bahamas to the United States was intercepted by the U.S. Coast Guard, the boat captain forced him and the other passengers to jump into the ocean. This harrowing ordeal left a lasting impact, underscoring his gratitude for survival and opportunity.
In the Washington, D.C. area, Martin built a life in the hospitality industry, starting at the Holiday Inn Washington Capitol in 1981. His dedication and warmth made him a beloved figure among staff and guests, earning him the prestigious Regional Apple of the Year Award in 1992. Martin retired from the hospitality industry in 2019 and was a member of the union, Unite Here Local 25. His exceptional service and cheerful disposition left a lasting impression on everyone he met, including a couple who invited him to their Texas ranch.
He found joy in travel and took great pride in his extended family, making regular phone calls to relatives near and far and always seeking to connect at family gatherings. Martin's passing has left a void in the lives of his family and friends. We are raising funds to cover cemetery and funeral home costs, honoring Martin's legacy and the love he shared with those around him. Your support will help us give Martin the farewell he deserves, celebrating a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure.
NOTE: In lieu of flowers, please donate here and the family will use the funds towards funeral expenses.
