On the morning of December 31, 2025, our world changed forever. Our beloved mother, a woman who spent her entire life fighting for her family, passed away unexpectedly from cardiac arrest following a courageous battle with COPD and congestive heart failure.

Up until her final moments, Mom was thinking of others. She had planned to cook us a beautiful New Year’s Eve meal that day—a final testament to her heart, which was always focused on making sure everyone else was fed, cared for, and loved.

Mami was a force to be reckoned with. As a single mother, she worked tirelessly—often balancing two jobs at once—to keep my brother and me afloat. She didn't know how to give up. Even as her health declined over the last few years, her spirit remained sharp, her sense of humor intact, and her devotion to her family unwavering. The absolute "apple of her eye" was her 6-year-old grandson, who brought her immense joy and strength throughout her illness.

While we are grieving, we are also facing a difficult reality. My mother was the primary caregiver for my disabled brother. She was his rock and his daily support system. With her sudden passing, I am now stepping into those shoes to ensure he maintains the sense of normalcy she worked so hard to provide for him.
